14 VOICES FROM THE BLOODIED FIELDS (Abbey Theatre Dublin)

Available until: the end of Sunday 22nd November

14 Voices from the Bloodied Fields has been created to commemorate the centenary of a tragedy which has come to be known as Bloody Sunday. I have not given a star rating and this is not so much a review as a description as it feels wrong to give a rating of this sort of performance. But I wanted to write something to acknowledge the piece and maybe draw other people’s attention to it and possibly even encourage them to watch something they might not have watched otherwise.

DEAR IRELAND CONTINUES (Abbey Theatre Dublin)****

Available until: Unknown but Part 1 is still available from four months ago

The original Dear Ireland land series was four evenings of monologues, filmed in lockdown, which might or might not have had a lockdown theme. The fifth part is linked, but different. This time, the writing is by audience members who have written letters to Ireland. The letters are read live onstage (yes, live onstage!) by some of Ireland’s leading actors.

Available until: 17th September 2020

Six neighbours arrange a Zoom call to discuss a piece of graffiti in their local community. The graffiti says someone named Jessica is a slut.

There’s a feeling it should be quite simple. Do they pay for the graffiti to be painted over or not?

I don’t think we’re Irish, though as some of my siblings are adoptees, we come a little bit from all over the place! We have Scotland, Wales, England, Cyprus, Slovakia, the USA and we’re fairly sure there is also somewhere in Asia on our family tree. It would be lovely if we were Irish too. But we do have one connection to the Abbey Theatre in Ireland – my mum has performed in a play there.
