BABE, THE SHEEP-PIG (Guildford School of Acting)*****

By Sophie

Available until: Second livestream 26th March at 6pm

There aren’t many children’s books about sheep. Lots about dogs, cats and horses, but sheep seem to appeal to few children in the way they have always appealed to me.

Of course, the star of this book is Babe the pig, but sheep still play an important role and through the book, the reader comes to understand that sheep aren’t stupid. They understand the instructions perfectly, but if they’re conveyed in a rude manner, they choose not to comply. These sheep are, of course, fictional, but research into the intelligence of sheep has concluded that they’re actually very bright animals. They also have the ability to recognise others so if a farmer kicks them or a dog bites, them, the chances are they won’t have forgotten it all by next week.

Available until: There is another performance on Thursday 18th March at 7.30pm.

These actors are students? Seriously?

That’s my career done then. I can’t compete with this lot but as an audience member I will be in for serious treats in the future. These students are so talented and they perform this brilliant and very important play perfectly. (I’m not saying I’m not jealous, though.)

IMAGE OF AN UNKNOWN WOMAN (Guildford School of Acting)***

Available until: One more performance on Thursday 18th March at 2.30pm.

Some people say the world has changed. Others say it hasn’t changed at all, that people have always been people.

It’s probably fair to say they’re both right and the opening few scenes of Image of a Young Woman illustrates this very succinctly.

HAMLET (Guildford School of Acting)****

Available until: One more performance on Wednesday 17th March at 7.30pm.

Hamlet is a brave choice for a drama school production. It’s a challenging play, there are so many twists and turns and it’s the type of play where you discover more every time you read it.

But what a great experience for these students, especially after suffering such disruption to their time at university. The performances are of a high standard, but maybe the most exciting thing is that they played characters in ways I hadn’t seen before and really challenged my feelings and thoughts about the play.
