Guildford Shakespeare Company have been very generous with their digital productions since the pandemic and their many enjoyable productions include A Christmas Carol and Henry V. They have recently returned to live performances, but they have still very kindly chosen to share She Stoops to Conquer and now As You Like It with us. The productions aren’t free to watch online (and there is no reason why they should be), but the company went to the trouble of recording the shows and making them available to us and the standard is always very high so it is well worth the money. Guildford is quite a long way away from where I live so it would be difficult to visit especially now but I am really glad we have had the opportunity to get to know this company’s work, even though the reason is sad.

The first production I ever reviewed was a production of As You Like It and that was nearly a whole year ago! I hope I’m better at reviewing than I was then. I write a lot more on my own now. I was only nine when I wrote my first review and I will be eleven in seven weeks.

Worldwide Shakespeare’s production of As You Like It was originally livestreamed just once but now it has been made available for another week. It is not free but it is Pay What You Can and whatever you pay, it will be worth it because it is a great production.

This production of As You Like It was the first ever collaboration between Shake-Scene Theatre Company and the Cream Faced Loons. I’ve watched productions from both of them and really enjoyed them. I’ve seen quite a few Shake-Scene productions and I reviewed their The Merry Wives of Windsor which I loved. But they’re equally good at tragedy, their Macbeth was actually quite emotional and The Winter’s Tale is a beautiful story with a bit of everything and Shake-Scene’s production was lovely.

Available until: Unknown, but there are three recordings of this event. This is the 29^th November performance. There were also performances on 28^th and 30^th November.

It’s always interesting watching plays on Zoom and seeing into actors’ homes, but in this play, I really enjoyed the use of backgrounds to give a sense of place. The International Actors Ensemble has taken advantage of this option and although all the actors have slightly different screens, it does look like they’re all in the same place. It worked really well, especially as much of the play took place in a really lovely bluebell wood. Wish I was there! I’ll happily swap November for summer.

I think the Globe is a really beautiful theatre. Every time I see a production, I’m surprised by how beautiful it is. This production has lots of shots of the entire stage (Kriss Russman directed the filming, though he didn’t direct the actual production) so you get the full effect of what a special theatre it is and how much work must have gone into it. It is sad to think the Globe (and almost every other theatre) has no audience at the moment.

My name is Megan and I am nine and I am probably the youngest person who will post on this blog. I know I am too young really but my mum and my granny and my older siblings are going to read this and post it for me.

The Show Must Go Online is a company that was formed in lockdown in order to do online live readings of Shakespeare’s plays once a week. Although most of the lockdown restrictions have been lifted, they are still continuing with the plays. I am really happy they are doing this as I have enjoyed all the plays very much (apart from Titus Andronicus which my mum thinks is too violent for me) and we can’t go to the theatre at the moment as they are all closed.
