Available until: Probably for a couple of days (today is 11th March 2021)

This is the second episode of Character Solos, a very exciting and unusual series of monologues from The Actors Centre. Usually, in a monologue, the characters are speaking their thoughts out loud and nobody hears them or they’re speaking to an imagined audience who makes no interruptions.

CHARACTER SOLOS EPISODE 1 (Effort Productions/Tristan Bates Theatre/The Actors Centre)****

Available until: 16th May 2021. You can buy each stream separately or save money by purchasing them together. The videos are available for 48 hours after purchase.

Character Solos 1 is a set of seven monologues, written and performed by the actors. We’ve watched a lot of online monologues over the past year and in most of them, the character is alone, or at least not with anyone who’s going to interrupt. If another character is mentioned, the monologue informs us of who they are and what they say. They do not appear in person.

SUNNYMEAD COURT (The Actors Centre/Tristan Bates Theatre)****

Available until: 3rd January 2021 at 11.59pm.

Marie and Stella live in adjacent flats with adjacent balconies. They’re aware of each other, but they don’t really know each other. Gone are the times when people are friends just because they live near to each other. Now, we go further afield and seek out the people we want to be friends with. Besides, if Marie and Stella have any feelings for each other, it’s probably more annoyance than anything. Loud music in the morning is seldom welcome!

THE AMAZING VANCETTI SISTERS (Tristan Bates Theatre)****

Available until: It’s been available since 2011

I really like plays with disabled characters in. It makes me feel better to know people like me are worth writing plays about. I especially like it when they’re written by Athena Stevens. Partly because she is disabled too but mostly because she is a really good playwright. I know I can’t write as well as she does but she makes me feel like I can do interesting things too.
