There has been a lot of information lately about sex education in schools. Things are changing and I’m very glad. I have learned about homosexual sex education as well as heterosexual sex education. A lot of students know everything already and they don’t need to learn it at school, but it’s still really important that it happens. Some students might not have all the accurate information and I think an important part of it is to provide validation and acknowledgement for students who are not heterosexual or don’t identify with the traditional genders.

Updating opera to the present day
doesn’t always work. Our lives are so different from the way people lived when
a lot of the most famous and best-loved operas were composed at least a hundred
years ago so understandably, it can be very difficult to set them in the
present day. I’m sure you’d also have big problems if you tried to set an opera
like Dr Atomic in the 19th century. Everything would just
seem wrong.

Can I say I just love the way Soho on Demand theatre IDs me
when I pay for some of their productions? They didn’t do it this time (though I
think they should have done, considering the content. Maybe they just recognised
me. That’s a lovely thought), but I did appreciate it the other times. I
know they do that to everybody, but it really is the loveliest way to start the
day.

I’ve never worked in an office. I doubt I’d last five
minutes. I don’t really know what goes on in offices, but it sounds really
stressful and confusing with all those forms and files and having to be
horrible to everyone who phones up with perfectly reasonable questions and thinking
up creative reasons why everything is the caller’s fault and not theirs. Though
actually, I really like being creative and I’ve definitely said things in my
career that aren’t true. Like when I claimed I’d been in a plane crash; when I pretended
to be blind; when I sold my brother as a slave and told my dad he’d been killed
by a homicidal goat… honestly, the things these playwrights make us say!
