Available until: Unknown

Scottish Opera’s production of Hansel and Gretel is really fun and magical. It was only posted on YouTube last month but it is obviously a really Christmassy production and even watching it in March still feels very exciting. There are trees and Christmas jumpers and for one hour and fifty-five minutes it’s like it’s Christmas again.

Available until: 7th February 2021

Scottish Opera’s production of Cosi fan tutte is really lighthearted and fun but it does take the story seriously and shows the characters as real people. The title is usually translated as ‘So do all women’ but this production seems to focus on the fact that everyone makes mistakes. So it’s like Cosi fan tutti. ‘Tutti’ means all males but it’s also used for a mixture of men and women.

This is an interesting one! It’s 13 minutes of in the lives of three chefs who work at a restaurant called The Narcissistic Fish – brothers Angus and Kai, and Belle, who is paid less but is the brains of the business. Angus and Kai receive some news which they both react to in different ways, while Belle has to make a decision about her future.

THE DIARY OF ONE WHO DISAPPEARED (Scottish Opera/Lammemuir Festival at the Theatre Royal Glasgow)****

Available until: Unknown

The Diary of One Who Disappeared was filmed under social distancing guidelines and I think it’s a really good choice of repertoire. The cast is small, which makes it easier to social distance. It’s also only just over half an hour, which would be a much smaller risk than a piece of two hours or more.

The Edinburgh International Festival isn’t officially happening this year. Like the Proms, the Glyndebourne Festival and almost every other live performance, it was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. However, also like the Proms and Glyndebourne and many others, the Edinburgh International Festival didn’t want to leave its fans with nothing to watch this year, so they have filmed quite a few different performances which we can enjoy at home. The series is called The Light Shines On and there are a lot of different videos for us to enjoy.
