Organised Chaos is one of those plays you’d probably class as a comedy because it does make you laugh but underneath it has some very serious points to make.
Kate is an addict. It started off as fun but it just got bigger and bigger. But she can see it’s got out of control so she’s decided to join a support group.
Kate doesn’t have one of the most common types of addictions. As she says herself it’s the kind of addiction that can seem quite funny when she first says it but you can probably get addicted to pretty much anything. An addiction doesn’t have to cause you physical harm to be dangerous.
I think Clancy Walker was brave to write a comedy about an addiction but she’s done a great job. She’s made the monologue funny but it never feels like she’s making fun of addictions. Director Francesca Goodridge has allowed the comedy to come through and I love the way the monologue ended because it was so unexpected and effective.
Actor Tori Hargreaves is clearly very good at comedy and she delivers her lines really well. I really like the way she’s got right into her character’s head and gives a complete performance rather than just making it a comedy sketch.
