An Elephant in the Garden is based on a book by Michael Morpurgo. He wrote War Horse too. He writes proper books. I don’t like soppy books and I think Harry Potter is total stinking rubbish but Michael Morpurgo writes about real stuff.
This is about Germany in World War 2 and there’s bombs and solders and an elephant. Elizabeth lives with her mum and her mum works in a zoo and she brings the elephant home and they go on the run with the elephant and an ennamy solder and that is EPICK.
The ending is a bit soppy but most of the story is really exiting so everyone should watch it if your over 8.
There is music in this and one of them is from the cello sweets by Bark. I don’t think that’s spelt right but if you can read it its good enough and if you can’t maybe you don’t know about classical music.
The stage is a circle and there’s a weird bit on one side. It looks like the Berlin wall falling down but it looks like an elephant too. Its like an optickal ilusan.
There is only 1 actor called Alison Reid. She tells the story as Elizabeth but she does the voices for all the other people and she is really good at it. Some of it is in German but most of it is in English so its not to annoying. I know some German. Dummkopf is German for twit and they said that in the play and gross farter means grandad. I like Elizabeth because she is brave and she don’t let her mum talk rubbish at her.
I would like to see this with lots of different actors
and a real elephant but we are in a pandemic now so we need to social distance
and doing plays with one actor means we can enjoy stories and keep the actors
safe. That is very important. The coronavirus is real and its killing people so
we need to have fun carefully but that doesn’t mean we have to be boring. An
Elephant in the Garden isn’t boring at all. I think its really good.
