The latest Showstopper musical is set somewhere I can’t tell you about because it would give away which story the Showstoppers chose but it is a really interesting place to set a musical and it was really good.
It was so good the Showstoppers were left to get on with the musical for most of the second half. The host Dylan Emery did not stop them to give them more ideas from the audience. It was such an emotional story I don’t think he wanted to interrupt them and the audience seemed really happy with the musical.
The musical is about three people who live in a sort of isolation but not the one you are probably thinking of. There is Harrison, his daughter Katie and a mysterious man called Mr Lime. They haven’t been to the mainland for a long time and the only person they really have contact with is a woman called Betty on the mainland. They do shipping forecasts. Harrison and Betty quite like each other. Katie reminds me a bit of Megan. She is older than Megan but she is very clever and she likes long words and stories.
They live in a very strange place and very strange things have been happening. It turns into a very exciting and emotional story which I really enjoyed watching a lot.
The band was Jordan Clarke and Alex Atty and they started off the improvisations for most of the songs. They started off a lot of them on their own and not because Mr Emery told them to do a new song. They are really good. Jonathan Ainscough who is a Showstopper was in chat. I think he talked to the audience a lot which is really nice but I didn’t really read the chat because I was watching the musical.
The four Showstoppers for this musical are Adam Meggido, Pippa Evans, Andrew Pugsley (who is usually the host) and Lucy Trodd. Mr Meggido and Ms Evans are regulars and it is always nice to see them again. Mr Pugsley is usually there but he is usually hosting and it is nice when he gets the chance to perform. We have only seen Ms Trodd once before but I think we have missed at least one livestream. It is difficult fitting everything in sometimes. There were 3 online performances on at the same time tonight. The other two sound really good but I am glad I chose this one.
Mr Meggido who plays Harrison is really good at emotion, he can say like one sentence and totally change the direction of the story. He does some emotional moments in this musical that really hit you quite hard. He improvised some really beautiful songs too and he had to improvise a special kind of poem and it was really brilliant.
Ms Evans plays a few different roles. She is very nice as Betty and she is funny too. It is an emotional story but it is nice to have humour in it. She also plays a goat. I like goats. They are very clever and most of the bad things goats are famous for aren’t true. Ms Trodd is really good as Katie. She is funny and clever and she is young in a convincing way and she doesn’t exaggerate it.
It is a really good musical and it is amazing to think it
was improvised.
