It’s tough being in lockdown. The people who you usually quite enjoy living with can turn into the most annoying people on the planet. Or so half the occupants of my house seem to have told me. They never went quite to the length of the character in this monologue but I think most of us can relate. We’ve probably either felt this anger in ourselves or we’ve felt it directed at us.
Rachel Belman has written a very angry monologue about someone who needs to vent. And as there’s probably only one person to vent to and as they’re probably the one who caused the problem anyway… The monologue also captures that slightly wild insanity which a lot of us can probably also recognise. The feeling that everything is on the verge of going out of control and if one more thing goes wrong...
Jasmine Teo is the director. This monologue probably could have been really funny but Jasmine obviously wanted to keep the intensity going for the full six minutes with no laughs and I don’t think you’d even get any nervous laughs watching this.
The monologue is performed by Roisin Brehony and she is really slightly terrifying. It really is a good thing she doesn’t have a garden. A very good thing. Roisin is powerful, compelling and I don’t know about you but she definitely made me feel three inches tall.
