Available until: Unknown. It’s quite
confusing.
The Theatre Channel Episode 4 dropped
on Christmas Eve and the theme is Christmas.
There are a lot of Christmas concerts
and they are all good but people sing the same sings.
This one doesn’t just have songs I
hadn’t heard in Christmas concerts this year. It has songs I don’t know at all.
I think it is good to sing people’s favourite songs but lots of people go to
the theatre because they like seeing new things. I got to see some new things
in this concert.
I like the Café Four. They are always really good as backing singers or dancers but they didn’t have a song that was just them in this episode. That is sad.
The first singer is Sophie-Louise Dann
who sings We Need a Little Christmas from Mame. It is not the famous
song with that name. She has lots of character and her singing is very
expressive. The Café Four are her backing singers.
Next some ArtsEd graduates sing
Seasons of love from Rent. They have really good voices. They sound
really good together but when one of them has a solo you can hear the
individuality in the voices. This is a really good song for showing the casting
directors what they can do.
After that Zizi Strallen sings
Promises, Promises from Turkey Lurky. It is cheerful and childlike. It’s fun to
listen to but I didn’t really connect to it emotionally.
Tosh Wanogho-Maud and Matt Croke sing
Happy Holiday/Let’s Start the New Year Right from Holiday Inn. The Café Four
sing this too. It is a lot of fun and the two solo voices go together really
well even though they are quite different. I hope everyone will start the New
Year right and stay indoors.
Manon Taris sings Ave Maria Paien from
Notre Dame de Paris in memorium for Charles Talar who was the originating
producer of Notre Dame de Paris. It’s quite gentle but really intense and I
really like how it’s staged with the candles.
Cassidy Janson sings White Christmas
and some of the time she accompanies herself on the piano. This is the one song
in this concert which I have heard a lot but I don’t mind. It’s really relaxing
and the Café Four are in it too.
Rachel John sings A Brand New Day from
The Wiz. She puts a lot of energy into it and it’s a lot of fun. It
seems effortless but I bet it isn’t really.
After the credits there is an
interview with Cassidy Janson which is interesting but I’m sure the audience
didn’t really ‘literally tear up the seats’. And if they did I don’t think
Cassidy would be so happy about it.
